The process
Three simple steps, with updates along the way so you can see your portrait come together.
Send your photos
Send me three to five of your favourite photos. Clear photos that show their face, markings and personality give me the best reference to work from.
I start painting
I paint your portrait by hand in acrylic on canvas, using bold colours and strong linework while keeping your pet’s features, markings and personality recognisable. I’ll send you an update before it’s finished so you can see how it’s coming together. Most portraits take around 3–4 weeks.
Your portrait is ready
Once you’re happy with the finished piece, I sign it, carefully pack it and send it straight to your door.
You’re part of the process
Before I start, we’ll talk through your photos, colours and background. I’ll send you an update while I’m working on your portrait, so you’re not waiting until the end to see it.
What makes a good photo
A good reference photo helps me capture your pet as accurately as possible.
- Good, even natural lightAvoid harsh shadows across their face.
- Get down to their eye levelRather than taking the photo looking down at them.
- Keep their colours naturalAvoid heavy filters or warm indoor lighting.
Questions people actually ask
How long does it take?
About 3–4 weeks from approved sketch to being packed and posted, sometimes longer over Christmas. If you’re working to a birthday, say so in the form and I’ll tell you straight away whether it’s doable.
Can you paint a pet who’s passed away?
Yes, and often do. Just mention it when you send your photos. If there’s a particular expression or moment you want captured, tell me and I’ll work from that.
Can I commission this as a surprise gift?
Definitely — book it under your own name and email and note that it’s a surprise. I’ll send the work-in-progress photo to you, not to the pet’s owner.
What if it doesn’t look right?
You’ll see a sketch and a work-in-progress photo before anything is final, so you can flag changes — colour, expression, framing — while there’s still time to change them. Nothing ships as a surprise to you.
When do I pay?
Not until you’re happy with the sketch. The form is an enquiry, not a checkout — I’ll reply with a firm quote first, and you decide from there.
Do you ship outside Australia?
Yes. Everything is packed flat and tracked. Add your city in the notes and I’ll confirm shipping cost with your quote.
